John McCarthy

American computer scientist who coined the term "artificial intelligence" (for the 1956 Dartmouth workshop he co-organized), created the Lisp programming language, and founded the Stanford Artificial Intelligence Laboratory — a founding figure of the symbolic, knowledge-based approach to AI.
