Karl Deutsch

Political scientist (Harvard/Yale/MIT), president of both the American and International Political Science Associations, and author of The Nerves of Government (1963) — a founding application of Wiener-style cybernetics and Shannon-style information theory to political systems, modeling governments as steering society through feedback and communication. He was Paul Werbos's Harvard doctoral advisor.

He earns a hub as a genuine cross-domain person-bridge: the same advisor whose canonical text founded political cybernetics also supplied the stalled political-forecasting problem that became Werbos's accepted 1974 dissertation — the reason backpropagation got generalized to recurrent form — linking political science's cybernetics tradition to the vault's backpropagation-origins cluster, a connection the embedding tools could not surface (the W29 person-bridge case).
