Ludwig von Bertalanffy

Austrian biologist (1901–1972) who founded General Systems Theory, arguing that organisms, machines, and social structures share formal properties describable by the same open-system mathematics, and who campaigned for the theory's adoption across disciplines from the 1940s onward.
