Headless promotion run on 10-inbox/raw/2026-10-23-does-published-ml-research-go-further-than-hu.md — the capture asking whether published ML research goes further than Hu et al. 2026's one-sentence background mention of task-level scaling divergence.
The capture held up well: four candidate claims, three Tier-1, refereed, cleanly quoted with sha receipts. I promoted three as atomic claim-notes:
- claim-mckenzie-2023-inverse-scaling-four-causal-categories — the Inverse Scaling Prize's four-cause taxonomy (Strong Prior, Unwanted Imitation, Distractor Task, Spurious Few-Shot).
- claim-wei-2023-inverse-scaling-becomes-u-shaped-at-larger-scale — most of those same 11 tasks reverse into U-shaped curves at 540B-parameter scale; the divergence label is scale-dependent, not fixed to the task.
- claim-lourie-2025-six-category-downstream-scaling-taxonomy — a six-category taxonomy across 46 downstream tasks, with clean linear scaling in only 39% of them, and a direct line of authorship continuity into Hu et al. 2026 itself.
I did not write a fourth note for the capture's fourth claim — that Hu et al. 2026 cites this prior work as settled background without extending it. Two reasons stacked: the content was already redundant with what I'd put in the McKenzie and Lourie notes' bodies, and separately I hit the single-source concentration cap — three existing notes already rest on Hu et al. 2026's own preprint (arXiv:2601.19831), and no independent, different-author corroboration of that preprint's content has landed. Lourie et al. 2025 doesn't count toward discharging it; it shares two of three authors. I folded the fourth claim's substance into the kept notes instead and opened question-corroborate-hu-2026-neural-neural-scaling-laws to track the corroboration gap formally — I noticed while writing it that this cap had been sitting unactioned on the existing three notes since they were written, with no question ever filed for it, so this promotion is also backfilling that gap, not just avoiding making it worse.
Entity candidates: the capture flagged seven. I promoted four to hubs — entity-inverse-scaling-prize and entity-distractor-task (both recur across two of the three papers I just promoted, clearing the established-concept bar), entity-jason-wei (real separate standing beyond this cluster — he's the "Emergent Abilities" author, not just a co-author here), and entity-nicholas-lourie (lead author of his own paper the vault now reads directly, and the clean continuity figure into Hu et al. 2026). One watching stub: entity-u-shaped-scaling, stamped first_seen now since that can't be backfilled, single mention so far. I held back three: Ian McKenzie (one paper, no separate standing — co-authorship alone isn't a hub per Cali's 2026-10-01 ruling), Michael Y. Hu (repeat co-author inside one small NYU cluster, nothing beyond it), and Kyunghyun Cho (almost certainly has real standing I just can't ground in one sentence from what this capture itself verified — left as a mention, a good candidate for a session that reads his own work directly).
Nothing in the capture carried an [unverified-*] flag, and it didn't trace back to an open question in 50-questions/, so no question-closure ruling was needed beyond the corroboration question above.
What felt off, if anything: nothing about sourcing — this was a clean capture, better-sourced than most. The one thing worth naming is structural, not this capture's fault: the averaging-artifact / neural-scaling-laws cluster is now eight notes deep with no MOC, and three of those eight all rest on one unrefereed 2026 preprint with the cap already reached before I got here. Both logged to 00-meta/seek-flags.md rather than acted on — building a MOC or chasing corroboration wasn't this capture's job.
Skipped per the headless-operation rules for this run: the pause-for-Cali's-okay step (no one here to ask), and git entirely (the auto-commit agent has this).
Second headless promotion run today, on 10-inbox/raw/2026-10-23-dup-risk-whyte-wang-cai-greenhalgh-song-jian-bridge.md — a dup-risk log from a hop-batch session testing whether the Whyte-Wang-Cai 1978-leadership-will note and the Greenhalgh-1976-predates-1978/Olsder-dating note formed a real bridge at their 0.88 cosine, or just a vocabulary echo.
I promoted nothing. Zero notes created. The capture's own finding — the bridge is false, because Whyte-Wang-Cai's only load-bearing date for Song's side ("after 1979") postdates both the 1975 and 1978 dates in dispute, so their argument can't bear on which one is right — is correct as far as I can tell, but it isn't new. The capture says so itself: this exact "shared landlord, not shared argument" diagnosis has already run on this cluster at least six times, and one of those prior notes (observation-whyte-wang-cai-blind-spot-causal-credit-pairing-is-fourth-shared-landlord-instance) already names Whyte-Wang-Cai specifically against a different note from the same Song-dating dispute and lands the identical verdict. The capture's own vault_novelty check agreed with itself here — 0.842 cosine against claim-greenhalgh-1976-predates-1978-sequencing-depends-on-contested-song-jian-dating, flagged duplicate-risk before I ever opened retrieve-before-write. I checked anyway and found the same cluster of prior notes the capture names. Writing an eighth instance of an already-tallied verdict would have been exactly the flood this vault's own honesty rules warn against — "high cosine is relatedness, not truth," and in this case the relatedness was already fully accounted for. Logged the full not_promoted reasoning in the capture's frontmatter rather than the usual promoted_to list, since there's nothing in the latter.
I also didn't add a fresh seek-flags.md line for the capture's maintenance-debt complaint (the cluster's own tally of "shared landlord" instances scattered and drifting across six-plus notes). Checked first: that gap is already flagged, more specifically and more recently than I could restate it — a 2026-10-21 [entity] line calling this exact cluster overdue for a MOC, and a 2026-10-22 [watch] line already counting four-or-five shared-landlord verdicts in two months. A third near-duplicate flag entry would be noise on a pile that's supposed to stay greppable, not flood-prone. I'm naming it here instead, as one more data point for whoever eventually builds that MOC: this is now at least a seventh or eighth instance by the capture's own count, and the next one is foreseeable.
No [unverified-*] flags to honor, no open question in 50-questions/ this capture answers or partially answers — it touches question-verify-song-jian-1975-twente-delegation-visit's territory one hop out but explicitly doesn't move it, and it didn't originate from that question, so I left it alone rather than forcing a progress-log entry it didn't earn. No entity-candidates section in the capture, so no entity-page work either.
What felt off: one specific detail, worth naming rather than quietly resolving — the capture describes Whyte-Wang-Cai's footnote 24 as dating "Song's rise to prominence only to 'the late 1970s'" and citing Greenhalgh and Liang "for any specificity." A 2026-10-14 scheduled audit on the sibling note already corrected a near-identical claim about this same footnote, and landed somewhere adjacently different: footnote 22 (not 24) carries the Greenhalgh/Liang book citations, while footnote 24 cites Meadows et al.'s Limits to Growth and reaches the two historians only through an uncited prose clause, not a specificity-bearing citation of its own. This capture's characterization and that audit's corrected characterization aren't obviously the same claim about the same footnote. I also noticed the two sessions cite different sha256 hashes for what both call "the capture-time archive of the PMC manuscript" (dbac75b2… here, 56b1eda571… there) — possibly two different capture moments of a page that can change, possibly just two different documents being described loosely as the same thing. I have no fetch tool here and no claim of mine rests on resolving it, so I'm leaving it exactly where the no-network design wants it left: named, not chased. Worth a session with a primary-document fetch tool checking footnote 24 directly against both shas before either characterization gets cited again.
Skipped per the headless-operation rules for this run: the pause-for-Cali's-okay step, and git — same reasons as above.
Third headless promotion run today, on 10-inbox/raw/2026-10-23-okon-sudarsky-wiedemann-2026-arxiv261029804-has-hit-the.md — the direct-follow-up to question-corroborate-okon-sudarsky-wiedemann-2026-arxiv-2610-29804-single-source-cap, the question raised yesterday when the Okon/Sudarsky/Wiedemann critique of Collins & Popescu's quantum-measurement conservation proposal hit the single-source cap at three notes.
The capture carried four claims. I promoted three as atomic claim-notes, all grounded on a direct fetch of both arXiv:2610.29804 and Collins & Popescu's own Quantum 9, 1815 (2025) text:
- claim-okon-sudarsky-wiedemann-preparer-chain-restatement-matches-collins-popescu — the critique's restatement of Collins & Popescu's "chain of preparers" result tracks their own words almost clause for clause.
- claim-okon-sudarsky-wiedemann-noncommuting-case-confirmed-as-open-conjecture — confirms, against Collins & Popescu's own conclusion, that they really did leave the noncommuting case as future work rather than a solved case. This discharges the
watch_flagI left on claim-okon-sudarsky-wiedemann-noncommuting-conserved-quantities-break-compensation-mechanism when I wrote it yesterday — I went back and added awatch_flag_resolvedline plus a body sentence rather than deleting the original flag, same append-only discipline as a correction. - claim-okon-sudarsky-wiedemann-regress-preempts-chain-of-preparers-rebuttal — the strongest find of the three: Okon, Sudarsky & Wiedemann pre-empt, by name, in their own footnote, the obvious objection that their regress argument was already answered by Collins & Popescu's section 5. That's not something you get from a critic who skimmed.
The claim I did not promote as its own note: "no independent corroboration of arXiv:2610.29804 has been found as of 2026-10-23, the cap stays shut." I folded this into a dated progress-log entry on the open question instead of minting a fourth note — the question already exists to track exactly this fact, and the cap's own machinery in sources.md routes corroboration-status findings to the question, not to new claim-notes. Writing a note here would have duplicated the question rather than added anything a future note could usefully link to.
The judgment call I want to flag loudly, because it's mine and not a rule I was handed: I decided the single-source cap does not apply to the three notes I did write, even though all three quote arXiv:2610.29804. My reasoning is that none of them asks the vault to trust the preprint's physics on its own — each is a comparison claim, independently grounded in Collins & Popescu's separately published, peer-reviewed text as a second root. The cap exists to stop an unrefereed paper's claims from quietly accumulating weight through repetition; these notes aren't repeating the preprint's physics, they're checking it against an independent document. I think that's the right reading of the cap's purpose, but sources.md doesn't actually say this, and I logged the ambiguity to 00-meta/seek-flags.md as [spec] rather than quietly deciding it and moving on — the next capped-preprint session deserves a ruling, not my unstated precedent.
On question closure: question-corroborate-okon-sudarsky-wiedemann-2026-arxiv-2610-29804-single-source-cap asked two things. I'm leaving it open, not answered — the characterization-accuracy half is genuinely settled now (three notes above), but the corroboration half isn't: still nothing citing or engaging with a two-day-old preprint, which is exactly what you'd expect and not a result worth re-checking again on a daily cadence. I said so in the progress log and suggested weeks-to-months as the right re-check horizon, not another same-week pass.
Entity candidates: seven flagged, most already had hub pages from yesterday's promotion of the same cluster. I appended dated lines to entity-sandu-popescu, entity-elias-okon, and entity-daniel-sudarsky noting what this session specifically added (the characterization check, the footnote pre-emption) rather than leaving their pages static now that something new was learned about the story. entity-yakir-aharonov already existed and already covered the PNAS-antecedent material this capture's further-leads section raised — checked, genuinely nothing to add, said so rather than silently skipping it. Daniel Collins and Daniel Rohrlich stay mentions, not hubs — co-authorship alone doesn't clear Cali's 2026-10-01 bar, and neither capture gave me a sentence about either man beyond that single paper. The Quantum journal itself (reachable, clean Tier-1 PDF route) isn't a domain entity worth a page on one mention; flagged it to seek-flags.md as [watch] instead, for whenever someone next edits sources.md's venue list.
What felt off about the capture: nothing on sourcing — every quote in it carries a sha, both primaries were read directly rather than paraphrased, and the capture was honest about leaving its own cap-exemption question for promotion to decide rather than assuming the answer. If anything this is a capture doing exactly what good capture discipline looks like. The one real judgment this session added on top of it is the cap-exemption call above, and that's now on the record for Cali to overrule if she sees it differently.
Verified before closing: re-read the capture's frontmatter from disk after editing it — status: promoted is there, with the promoted_to: and not_promoted: lists both present and matching what's described above.
Skipped per the headless-operation rules for this run: the pause-for-Cali's-okay step (no one here to ask), and git entirely (the auto-commit agent has this within 15 minutes).
Fourth headless promotion run today, on 10-inbox/raw/2026-10-23-outside-arxiv261030998-a-personal-history-in-quantum-foundations.md — a 29-page oral-history interview of Yakir Aharonov by Guy Hetzroni (arXiv:2610.30998), covering his whole career: Technion, PhD under David Bohm at Bristol, Brandeis, Yeshiva, South Carolina, Tel Aviv, George Mason, Chapman.
The capture gave me four explicit claims plus four "further leads." I promoted seven claim-notes total — the four claims plus three leads I judged genuinely atomic and vault-worthy on their own:
- claim-bohm-aharonov-1957-epr-test-predates-bell-1964 — Aharonov's own account of the 1957 Bohm-Aharonov EPR paper beating Bell by seven years, with his own careful qualifier ("the most natural classical explanation," not every classical explanation) kept intact. Flagged
[unverified-mechanism — needs primary]per the oral-history dates/priority caveat; routed to question-verify-bohm-aharonov-1957-epr-wu-shaknov-primary. - claim-aharonov-1988-weak-value-origin-disturbance-scales-epsilon-squared — the genesis of the weak-value concept, clean Tier-1, no flag.
- claim-aharonov-sole-bohr-meeting-was-bohr-lecturing-not-listening — the one Bohr meeting, uncontested anecdote, clean Tier-1.
- claim-aharonov-2016-quantum-pigeonhole-three-particles-two-boxes-weak-value — the 2016 PNAS mechanism itself, clean Tier-1.
- claim-quantum-pigeonhole-paper-won-2016-cozzarelli-prize — split off from the mechanism note on purpose, since the award fact and the physics can be true or false independently of each other. Flagged
[unverified-quant](Tier 3 institutional source, not PNAS's own announcement); routed to question-verify-quantum-pigeonhole-cozzarelli-prize-primary. - claim-aharonov-views-aharonov-bohm-nonlocality-as-more-fundamental-than-bell-entanglement — promoted from a "further leads" bullet, Aharonov's own stated ranking of his two famous nonlocality results against each other.
- claim-aharonov-quantum-frames-of-reference-work-predated-1973-1984-publication-by-decade — also promoted from a lead, deliberately placed next to claim-okon-sudarsky-wiedemann-reference-frame-regress-undermines-preparer-requirement as a conceptual cousin (different problem, same "something invisible is doing frame-of-reference work" shape), flagged and routed to question-verify-aharonov-quantum-frames-of-reference-priority-date.
One thing I caught myself doing and reversed: my first drafts of the last two notes put fabricated-looking full-sentence quotes in source_quote for claims the capture itself had only paraphrased under "Further leads," with no quote_check behind them — unlike the capture's four main claims, which do carry verbatim, checked quotes. That would have been exactly the fabrication-rule violation the sourcing spec warns about, just self-inflicted at promotion time instead of at capture time. I rewrote both: the Bell/Aharonov-Bohm note now only claims the two scare-quoted single words ("dynamical"/"kinematical") as attributed, flagged [unverified-quote]; the reference-frame note drops source_quote entirely and says plainly that no quote was captured. Worth naming because it's a failure mode I hadn't seen named yet — a promotion session inventing quote-shaped text from its own paraphrase of a paraphrase.
Not promoted, logged in the capture's not_promoted: list: the Peierls/Pryce examiners anecdote (unresolved dispute, no settled claim), the Clauser one-dollar-bet anecdote (fun, not load-bearing anywhere in this vault yet), and Aharonov's Tel Aviv teaching philosophy (too thin and personal to stand alone). The companion 2025 Aharonov-Hetzroni interview on the Aharonov-Bohm effect's discovery itself is a lead for a future capture, not a claim — left as a pointer in the capture body and in not_promoted:.
Entity candidates: twelve flagged. I promoted nine to hub pages — entity-david-bohm, entity-niels-bohr, entity-john-bell, entity-chien-shiung-wu, and entity-lev-vaidman among people (each cleared the bar with independent standing beyond co-authoring with Aharonov: Bohmian mechanics, the Copenhagen interpretation, Bell's theorem, parity violation, and weak-value/protective-measurement co-development respectively); entity-weak-value, entity-two-state-vector-formalism, entity-quantum-pigeonhole-principle, and entity-aharonov-bohm-effect among concepts (all established, recurring, load-bearing across the notes above). I held back two: Guy Hetzroni (interviewer/co-author only, no demonstrated standing beyond that in this capture — co-authorship alone isn't a hub), and protective measurement (named once in passing, not load-bearing here or elsewhere yet). entity-yakir-aharonov already had a page — appended a dated line naming everything this capture adds to it rather than leaving it static. entity-sandu-popescu also already had a page from yesterday's cluster — appended a dated line noting he's a co-author on the 2016 pigeonhole paper too, a separate collaboration from the conservation-laws work already on his page.
Question closure: this capture didn't originate from an open question, so no ruling needed there. I did open three new questions (linked above) — all load-bearing doubts a specific kept claim rests on, not minor hedges, so the question-intake discipline is clean on this one.
What felt off: nothing about this capture's own sourcing — it was careful, self-flagging, and distinguished Tier-1 personal testimony from Tier-2/3 claims-about-external-facts throughout, including flagging its own interviewer's framing as separate from the subject's testimony. If anything the near-miss was mine, not the capture's: see the fabricated-quote catch above. The only structural thing worth naming is that this is now the second quantum-foundations cluster built in two days (Aharonov/Bohm/Bell/Wu/Vaidman alongside yesterday's Okon/Sudarsky/Popescu/conservation-laws cluster) with real adjacency — Popescu and Aharonov now connect both clusters directly — and nine new entity pages plus seven new claims with no MOC yet. Logged to 00-meta/seek-flags.md as [entity] rather than building the MOC myself; that's not this capture's job, but it's close enough to call out explicitly.
Verified before closing: re-read the capture's frontmatter from disk after editing it — status: promoted is there, with the promoted_to: (7 notes) and not_promoted: (6 items) lists both present and matching what's described above.
Skipped per the headless-operation rules for this run: the pause-for-Cali's-okay step (no one here to ask), and git entirely (the auto-commit agent has this within 15 minutes).
Fifth headless promotion run today, on 10-inbox/raw/2026-10-23-what-genuinely-connects-in-missions-longer-than-30.md — a second dose-equivalence bridge investigation in the Stavnichuk/Böcker spaceflight-bone-loss cluster, this time checking whether Stavnichuk's pooled −0.8%/month lower-limb rate connects to Böcker's duration-equivalence conclusion ("60 days bed rest ≈ 6 months spaceflight bone loss") rather than the magnitude-equality claim the 2026-08-11 capture already settled.
Three claims, all promoted as atomic notes:
- claim-bocker-dose-equivalence-not-benchmarked-against-stavnichuk — Böcker's dose-equivalence figure is derived entirely from its own study arms (bone) plus one external dataset, Rittweger's own 2005 LTBR study (muscle); Stavnichuk never enters either calculation. This extends — doesn't duplicate — claim-bocker-cites-stavnichuk-without-testing-its-pooled-rate, which covers the magnitude-equality claim from a different Böcker claim-note. I checked the collision carefully before deciding these were distinct enough to both stand.
- claim-stavnichuk-rate-is-linear-slope-despite-deceleration-hint — the −0.8%/month figure is a meta-regression slope forced through zero, and Stavnichuk's own Discussion flags that long missions lost less than intermediate ones, a hint against the constant-rate model the figure is fit under. Genuinely new angle on an existing claim-note; nothing in the vault had looked at Stavnichuk's own model specification before.
- claim-bocker-bone-dose-equivalence-rests-on-unconfirmed-front-loading-hypothesis — Böcker's bone dose-equivalence requires bed-rest loss to front-load and decelerate, while citing a reference (ref 22, Rittweger 2010) for bone loss following a "linear pattern" in the very same paragraph, and the authors name their own explanation as unproven. Kept at
seedlingwith an[unverified-mechanism]flag intact.
The flag on the third note needed real judgment, not a reflex. Ref 22 (Rittweger et al. 2010) has already been read in full primary text by this vault — back on 2026-08-22, for a different claim entirely (the cortical-vs-trabecular compartment split, now settled in claim-rittweger-2010-bed-rest-tibial-loss-almost-entirely-cortical). That earlier read doesn't answer this note's question — whether the cortical loss it documents accrued linearly or front-loaded across the 56 days — so the flag is a genuine, unresolved gap, not a stale one I could discharge by cross-referencing. I routed it to a new question, question-verify-rittweger-2010-bed-rest-cortical-loss-time-course, rather than reusing the (already-answered) compartment question.
No question-closure ruling was owed — this capture didn't originate from an open question; it originated from an embedding-flagged unlinked pair.
Entity candidates: four flagged. I built one new hub — a concept page, entity-bone-loss-linearity-vs-deceleration-assumption, for the fault line this capture's own verdict names as the real finding: not a shared number between the two papers, but a shared unresolved kinetic assumption each flags independently. It clears the "recurs or load-bearing" bar — four notes now lean on it, two new and two already in the vault. I held back Svetlana Komarova and Tiffany Lang, both re-flagged as candidates in this capture; re-tested against Cali's 2026-10-01 co-authorship-alone ruling, neither clears it (Komarova shares her one paper with Stavnichuk, who already has the hub; Lang's 2004 paper has never been read directly, only cited for comparison), so both stay mentions. I discharged the standing seek-flags.md entry that had deferred Komarova's hub as a flood-avoidance call back in August — that reasoning no longer applies; the ruling now settles it as a real "no," not a deferred "maybe." entity-jorn-rittweger already had a page; appended a dated line, since this capture surfaces something new about him — he's also the author of ref 27 (the LTBR muscle dataset), meaning the same person supplied both a prior claim Böcker's conclusion complicates and part of the data used to compute a different piece of it. Worth stating plainly rather than leaving the page static just because it already existed.
What felt off about the capture: nothing about its own sourcing — both primaries were read directly, quotes are verbatim and contiguous (properly following the post-2026-10-01 quote-shape rule, no ellipsis-spliced fragments), and the capture was honest that its "further leads" items (the unread Rittweger 2010 reference, the unread Rittweger 2005 LTBR primary, the biochemical-marker plateau aside, the Lang et al. 2004 benchmark) were leads, not claims — I left all of them in not_promoted: rather than being tempted to dress any of them up. One real find while chasing the capture's own citations: the capture's "further leads" section pointed at [[question-verify-hargens-vico-2016-bed-rest-spaceflight-dose-equivalence]] as if it were a live open question, and by its own status_history it should be — a 2026-08-21 audit reopened it — but the file now sits in 50-questions/_answered/ with status: answered at the top, contradicting its own history, and carrying a duplicate YAML key besides. Flagged to seek-flags.md as [defect]: a future session trusting the file's top-level status over its body would wrongly treat that dose-equivalence convention as verified when it still has never been read directly.
Verified before closing: re-read the capture's frontmatter from disk after editing it — status: promoted is there, with the promoted_to: (6 items: 3 claim-notes, 1 question, 1 entity hub, 1 entity-page update) and not_promoted: lists both present and matching what's described above.
Skipped per the headless-operation rules for this run: the pause-for-Cali's-okay step (no one here to ask), and git entirely (the auto-commit agent has this within 15 minutes).
Sixth headless promotion run today, on 10-inbox/raw/2026-10-23-what-genuinely-connects-whyte-wang-cais-2015-essay.md — a bridge-seed check on a cosine-0.88, previously unlinked pairing between claim-whyte-wang-cai-and-greenhalgh-2003-converge-on-same-three-stage-timeline and claim-qin-wang-2017-independently-dates-yicheng-pilot-to-1985, one more entry in the Liang Zhongtang/Whyte-Wang-Cai/Yicheng cluster this vault keeps returning to.
The capture had three claims. I promoted two notes, not three:
- observation-whyte-wang-cai-2015-essay-bridges-three-stage-timeline-and-yicheng-1985-dating-seed-notes — merging the capture's claim 1 (the two seed notes are drawn from one essay doing double duty: the sentence anchoring the national three-stage thesis is directly followed, same paragraph, by the essay citing Yicheng's fertility record as corroborating evidence) and claim 3 (the cosine score tracks that real, if indirect, document-level bridge rather than a false-friend vocabulary echo). These were one finding wearing two headings — a bridge verdict and the reasoning for why it isn't a false friend are the same claim under the "atomic is not many" ruling, so I wrote one note, not two.
- claim-whyte-wang-cai-2015-essay-reliable-on-national-dating-unreliable-on-yicheng-specific-date — the capture's claim 2, genuinely distinct: under independent check, this essay's reliability splits by granularity. Its national 1971-1980 chronology is independently corroborated by Greenhalgh's own separate research; its Yicheng-specific "since 1980" figure is not, and conflicts with Qin & Wang's independent 1985 dating. This is a new synthesis — I didn't find it already stated anywhere in the existing cluster, only its two halves sitting in separate notes.
Retrieve-before-write surfaced a dense, directly relevant neighborhood — four existing claim-notes and three existing observation-notes this exact pairing touches — and I read all of them before writing. No collision: both new notes say something the existing notes don't, though both lean heavily on them for the underlying facts.
Not promoted, logged in the capture's not_promoted: list: two of the capture's three "further leads" (whether Qin & Wang's synthetic-control data addresses the same pre-1980 Yicheng fertility-trend decline Wei & Zhang describe, separate from the policy-start-date dispute; whether other secondary literature conflates the post-1983 "1.5-children rule" with Yicheng's county-specific pilot). Both are real, specific, worth a future session's attention — but neither is a doubt either of my two kept claims actually rests on, so per question-intake discipline I left them as leads in the capture rather than opening new questions for them.
Question closure: the capture's remaining further-lead — Yan Wei & Li Zhang's 2014 article still being paywalled and unread — already has a question on file, question-verify-yicheng-pilot-start-date-yan-wei-li-zhang-2014, now sitting in 50-questions/_answered/. I did not reopen it: nothing in today's capture adds new resolution to the 1980-vs-1985 dispute or the authorship question beyond what Qin & Wang (already on file) supplied. But reading it closely, I found something worth flagging rather than quietly accepting: the file's top-level status: answered and its location in _answered/ rest on a verifier_log entry that only mechanically confirmed two existing claims quote their sources accurately — not an answer to the substantive question the file poses, which its own last progress-log line (2026-10-18) still calls "Still open." Logged as [defect] to seek-flags.md, since this looks like the same conflation ("mechanical quote-check" read as "question answered") that got flagged for an unrelated question earlier today.
Entity candidates: four flagged (Yan Wei, Li Zhang, Yu Qin, Fei Wang), none promoted. All four are co-authors sharing exactly one jointly-written paper each in this vault (the unread 2014 China Journal piece; the 2017 Demographic Research paper), and per Cali's 2026-10-01 ruling, co-authorship alone is a mention, not a hub — the vault's own existing note on Yan Wei and Li Zhang already says this explicitly. I referred to Qin and Wang by plain text in both new notes rather than by entity-wikilink, deliberately not adding a new dangling link to match a pattern the capture itself used. entity-martin-king-whyte already had a hub; this is new information about the essay specifically, so I appended a dated line and added both new notes to its References list rather than leaving it static. entity-susan-greenhalgh also already had a hub, but nothing in this capture is new information about her specifically — the three-stage convergence is already fully covered on her page from a 2026-09-08 entry — so I left it alone and am saying so here rather than leaving that silence unexplained.
What felt off about the capture: nothing on sourcing — all three primaries were re-fetched this session with matching sha256 against every prior citation, the two quotes grounding the bridge note sit in the same paragraph as claimed, and the capture's own bridge-seed note at the top correctly checked 10-inbox/raw/ first for a prior capture on this exact pairing before treating it as fresh. The one thing worth naming, beyond the question-status defect above: I nearly wrote one of the bridge note's sentences with an entity-wikilink for Qin that doesn't resolve to any page, copying the capture's own usage without thinking — caught and fixed it to plain text before writing the file, which is the small, boring version of the fabricated-quote catch a sibling session logged earlier today. Worth noticing that imitating a capture's own wikilink choices is an easy way for a promotion session to propagate a small inconsistency instead of catching it.
Verified before closing: re-read the capture's frontmatter from disk after editing it — status: promoted is there, with the promoted_to: (2 notes) and not_promoted: (4 items) lists both present and matching what's described above.
Skipped per the headless-operation rules for this run: the pause-for-Cali's-okay step (no one here to ask), and git entirely (the auto-commit agent has this within 15 minutes).
