Thomas Galloway is a third instance of the vault's one-person-two-lineages pattern — astronomy and actuarial science as simultaneous, not sequential, careers
The vault holds two existing cases of a single person anchoring two vault-distant domains: Edmond Halley, who founded both transit-of-Venus parallax and annuity pricing on lives, and Richard Price, who anchors both actuarial mathematics and the founding debate of modern political philosophy. Thomas Galloway (1796–1851) is a third instance of the same shape, surfaced while checking whether claim-1711-amicable-policy-sale-possibly-first-life-policy-sale-on-record and claim-pensam-1811-amicable-experience-first-assured-lives-mortality-data shared a real mechanism — they don't; the two events sit two pages apart (JIA 25, pp. 209 and 211) in one continuous Walford narrative with no documented link. Galloway is named, one sentence over from that disconfirmation, as the registrar who deepened Pensam's 1811 mortality analysis in 1841.
Galloway was simultaneously the Amicable Society's actuary (1833–1851) and a working astronomer — Royal Astronomical Society vice-president in 1837 and 1848, its secretary in 1847, and 1848 Royal Medallist for a memoir on the solar system's own proper motion. Where Price's two lineages read more like two chapters of one biography and Halley's two founding acts were separated by field but not by any real time pressure, Galloway's pairing is the tightest of the three: the actuarial post and the astronomical honors overlap for roughly two decades, not two eras. Astronomy and actuarial mortality data — a table of stars, a table of deaths — is now the vault's most-repeated cross-domain bridge, three figures deep.
Whether this reflects something structural about small, overlapping nineteenth-century British scientific and financial institutions, or is closer to survivorship — three data points found because the vault went looking for exactly this shape — is not established by the sources and is left out of the claim itself.

“In 1841 much more complete results of its mortality experience were deduced by Mr. Thomas Galloway, the then registrar.”
