ChronoCulture's older-year-naming asymmetry is the one branch claim no independent source has reached — what would confirm or disconfirm that naming the older of two decades-distant years helps only as the real shift grows large?

The single-source concentration cap on the ChronoCulture preprint (arXiv:2610.20472) was discharged on 2026-10-24 by Daryani, Bogen & Daepp (2026, arXiv:2609.01902) — see observation-daryani-independently-corroborates-chronoculture-discharging-single-source-cap. That corroboration reached two of the branch's three claims. It did not reach the third:

Why it isn't corroborated yet. ChronoCulture's result is a conditional asymmetry across two target years decades apart: naming the year helps near-zero on average, but naming the older of the two years shows a growing benefit as the real shift between them grows large, while naming the newer year does not. Daryani et al. tested a narrower, different thing — whether naming the country's most recent surveyed year moved a model closer to that recent snapshot (it did not, −0.005 to +0.009 across models) — and never varied a decades-distant older year under a large shift. See claim-daryani-year-naming-test-does-not-reach-chronoculture-older-year-asymmetry. Directionally consistent with "year-naming is weak on average," silent on the specific conditional effect.

The specific verification. An independent experiment that, holding country fixed, (a) names an older, decades-distant survey year versus naming no year, (b) stratifies by the size of the real shift between that older year and a recent one, and (c) reports whether the older-year benefit grows with shift size and whether a newer-year label does not. This is the mechanism-flavored claim of the branch — it hints at how these models default to a present-skewed average rather than genuinely modeling the past — which is exactly why an independent confirmation is worth more here than on the two already-corroborated claims.
