verifications:

This is a Tier-4-sourced verbatim quote; the sourcing floor wants it on the primary.
2. Niles Eldredge & Stephen Jay Gould (1972), "Punctuated equilibria: an alternative to phyletic gradualism," in Models in Paleobiology, ed. T. J. M. Schopf (San Francisco: Freeman, Cooper & Co.), pp. 82–115. Confirm against their own text: (a) that the paper explicitly builds on Mayr's geographic/peripatric speciation model (and on I. M. Lerner's homeostasis) — i.e. the "logical consequence of Mayr" derivation in claim-punctuated-equilibrium-derives-from-mayr-peripatric-speciation is theirs, not a secondary gloss; and (b) that their distinguishing contribution was the emphasis on stasis (claim-punctuated-equilibriums-novel-addition-was-stasis-emphasis).
How to get in: the 1972 chapter is widely reproduced (Gould's collected works; several university course PDFs); Mayr (1954) is harder — a library/JSTOR route or a scan of Evolution as a Process. (1) Mayr 1954 quote — CONFIRMED near-verbatim on p. 179 (Summary), with one spelling-variant artifact ("paleontologist" vs "palaeontologist"); flag lifted, source repointed Tier 4 -> 1 on claim-mayr-1954-predicted-fossil-record-gaps-from-peripatric-speciation.
