The capture cited, as a further lead it "left unfollowed," Gene Hunt's 2007 quantitative result: across roughly 250 fossil lineages, stasis and unbiased random walk dominate the fitted models while directional trends are rare — a finding that would partially narrow the strong Eldredge–Gould punctuated-equilibrium claim. Because the capture read this only secondhand (no primary opened) and it is a specific quantitative claim (~250 lineages), it was not promoted; a number of this kind must rest on its primary before it becomes a note.

1. The dataset size (~250 lineages / trait sequences) and the exact breakdown — what fraction fit stasis, random walk, and directional trend respectively.
2. Whether Hunt frames the result as narrowing or qualifying the strong version of punctuated equilibrium (rapid change is not the dominant within-lineage mode; stasis and drift are).
3.
