Wikipedia's article on Qian Xuesen states that "In 1962, Qian recruited Song Jian and Guan Zhaozhi to establish China's first cybernetics laboratory with him." If accurate, this places Song Jian's earliest documented cybernetics exposure at 1962 — thirteen years before the vault's earliest-dated European contact (Geert Jan Olsder's 1975 Twente-delegation memory, claim-olsder-account-traces-song-jian-twente-contact-to-1975-delegation-visit) and sixteen before the 1978 Helsinki IFAC congress that both Liang Zhongtang's essay and Dylan King's 2022 account treat as formative (claim-liang-2009-essay-corroborates-song-jian-1978-foreign-cybernetics-exposure, claim-dylan-king-2022-essay-places-song-jian-at-1978-helsinki-ifac-congress). It would relocate the origin of Song's cybernetics toolkit from a European contact — the Dutch systems-and-control group at Twente — to a domestic one: his own recruiter and eventual superior in China's missile program.

The claim rests on Wikipedia's paraphrase (Tier 4) of a single footnoted source that no vault session has read directly. • 2026-10-01 — An independent 2025 secondary source (Gary Zhexi Zhang, Combinations) partially corroborates this claim (the 1962 date, both named founders) but does not describe Qian Xuesen as personally co-founding the 1962 Control Theory division "with him" — in Zhang's account Qian's own 1961 Operations Research Division, with Hua Luogeng and Xu Guozhi, is a separate, prior institution. The discrepancy is specifically about Qian's personal role, not the lab's existence, date, or founders.
