Ann Hardy

Wrote and rewrote Tymshare's SDS-940 timesharing operating system starting in 1966, rose to become a Tymshare vice president, and is the vault's central case study in built-work authorship erased along a gender line — colleagues (and even her own husband's hiring) treated the work as belonging to Norman Hardy instead. Two independent primary oral histories (Charles Babbage Institute, 2012; Computer History Museum, 2016), each read in full, confirm the authorship claim in her own words years apart; the specific disclaimer quote attributed to Norman Hardy in secondary retellings does not appear, verbatim or in substance, in either transcript.
