Verdict: the bridge is real, but it is a shared-evidence bridge, not a shared-conclusion bridge. Both notes are built on the identical sentence of Liang Zhongtang's 2009 essay — not two similar sentences, the same one, quoted in full in this capture's frontmatter — read for two different purposes by two unconnected sessions. That literal overlap, not thematic resemblance, is what a 0.87 cosine score was detecting. The two notes' verdicts do not contradict each other and both remain true. But following the shared sentence to its consequences surfaces something neither sibling capture noticed: if the note on the other side of this pairing (Olsder's 1975 account) is accurate, the "third node" that the Liang–Forrester note identifies as the sole connector between the two essays is itself standing on the same clause Olsder's account puts in question.

The Liang–Forrester note uses the sentence's first clause (the "1978 academic visit to Europe" dating) as corroboration that Song's method traces to the same cybernetics lineage Jay Forrester's 1970 MIT conference set in motion — via the mediating note claim-song-jian-missile-scientist-engineered-one-child-policy-via-cybernetics-of-population, which frames a 1978 IFAC Helsinki encounter as Song's introduction to Club-of-Rome cybernetics. The Olsder note uses the sentence's second clause (the "never heard... before 1978" claim) as the specific target that Olsder's 1975 Twente account contradicts. This is not two notes independently orbiting a shared topic at a comfortable distance — it is two notes built on two clauses of one sentence, which explains the unusually tight 0.87 score more precisely than "same historical episode" does.

Confirming the sentence is shared does not mean the two findings collide.
The Liang–Forrester note's claim is bibliographic: neither text names,
cites, or quotes the other's subject matter, so any connection between them
runs through a third vault note. That finding holds regardless of which
date is correct for Song's cybernetics exposure — even if Liang's "no
exposure before 1978" clause is wrong, Liang's essay still never mentions
Forrester, MIT, or the Club of Rome by name, and Forrester's essay still
never mentions China. The Olsder note's claim is a factual dating
conflict between two single-witness primaries (Liang's own essay; Olsder's
own 46–49-years-later recollection), already flagged

session's re-reading changes that open status. The two verdicts sit
comfortably side by side: one is about what two documents say to each
other (nothing, directly), the other is about whether one of those

The mediating note the Liang–Forrester bridge depends on

states the "claimed trigger... was Song's 1978 encounter at the IFAC World
Congress in Helsinki with the cybernetic, Club-of-Rome-associated approach
to population control." Olsder's
own account, read again this session (archive_page, sha unchanged),
states plainly that the 1978 Helsinki congress was a re-encounter: Olsder
had already described his University of Twente group's "Club-of-Rome-inspired"
mathematical population-growth research to Song directly in spring 1975,
three years earlier, and — per Olsder's quoted words — "this work seemed to
interest Jian immediately." If this account is accurate, the specific event
the vault's mediating note names as Song's introduction to Club-of-Rome
cybernetics is not the first one; the earliest documented contact point
between Song and the Forrester-descended, Club-of-Rome population-modeling
tradition shifts three years earlier, to a campus bar in Enschede rather
than a congress hall in Helsinki. This does not sever the Liang–Forrester
bridge itself — Forrester's 1970 MIT conference still precedes either 1975
or 1978 by years, and Olsder's own research is, by his account,
Club-of-Rome-inspired — but it relocates which specific encounter in the
